Elcito is an enchanting village built on the slopes of Monte San Vicino. It consists of a small number of different abandoned houses, where time seems to stand still. Due to its location on a rock, at 800 metres above sea level, Elcito is often compared to an eagle's nest.<\/p>

The village, part of the municipality of San Severino, can be reached via the only road, which takes you uphill while winding through the beautiful countryside. \u00a0<\/p>

This used to be a lively village where about 200 people lived. They lived completely self-sufficient, in remote solitude, and were completely dependent on each other. Life on such a rock was extraordinary and extremely tough. If you walk through this hamlet now, you will see pictures hanging on the walls everywhere referring to those times. With their stern and hard expression, the people in the pictures show the story of a life that was not easy and hard.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Elcito is beautiful in its own right, but also has another strong point; The spectacular beech forest of Canfaito. Ideal for those who love hiking. The forest is defined by ancient beech trees. Some are more than 20 metres tall and have a circumference of 6 metres! They are estimated to be more than 500 years old.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

As I said; Elcito is an extinct village. The residents have left for habitable areas. Two old people still live there, who are now supplied with groceries from the supermarket once a week by a courier.<\/p>

In summer and during days when many Italians go out, the serene tranquillity turns into a lively destination. Nicola and Roberto created a reference point in Elcito for locals and tourists alike. Il RIstoro Il Cantuccio has a small menu featuring only local products. Its thoughts are as simple as they are appetising, in keeping with the life of Elcito's ancient inhabitants. Simple and pure. Like honey coming from the beehives of a local beekeeper, pecorino they buy from a nearby shepherd, the charcuterie from a farmer on Mount La Pereta., and the crescia are typical of this region. Since a few months, the same products have also been sold in their shop.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
