Our personal day trip to Assisi - this is how we experienced it

We left around 9.30am from Casale di Oto. Our first stop, of course, was the famous Basilica di San Francesco - the highlight of Assisi and a UNESCO world heritage site. Giotto's impressive frescoes and the basilica's serene atmosphere make a deep impression, time after time.

From there we let ourselves be carried away by the historic centre of Assisi. We enjoyed artisan shops, charming alleys and a delicious cappuccino on the lively Piazza del Comune - the beating heart of the city.

Lunch in Assisi with a view to make you speechless

For lunch we settled down at the restaurant La Terrazza, where you have spectacular views over the Umbrian hills. This really is a hidden gem in Assisi!

Not only was the panorama impressive - the food was top notch too. Fresh, local and refined, with a fantastic selection of wines. Our tip: try the local red wine from Umbria (feel free to ask us for the name - we remembered it!).

La Terrazza is one of those places where you stay longer than planned - and don't regret it for a moment.
