Discover Le Marche on foot: The Grand Tour of Monte San Vicino

During your stay in our B&B, we would like to invite you to discover the beautiful nature of Le Marche. One of the most beautiful walks in the region is undoubtedly the trek to the top of the Monte San Vicino. Dominating the landscape from all directions, this striking mountain offers breathtaking views and an unforgettable hiking experience.

Whether you opt for the short (tough trek) or the longer (less strenuous trek): the Monte San Vicino lets you experience Le Marche at its best!

The Great Route - For real hiking enthusiasts

For the hiker or lover of longer treks, there is the Grand Route of Monte San Vicino highly recommended.

  • Distance: about 9 kilometres
  • Height difference: approximately 540 metres
  • Duration: about 4 hours

The route takes you alternately through dense forests, open fields, rocky outcrops and wide panoramas. Along the way, you can enjoy the peace, the smell of the forest and the views over the hills of Le Marche. The climb to the top is not too steep, but requires basic fitness.

Once at the top, you will be rewarded with phenomenal 360-degree views. On clear days, you can even see the Adriatic Sea and the peaks of Umbria and Tuscany!

Hence our advice; after a rainy day, when the dust has cleared, is the perfect day to hike to the summit.

Some more tips!

  • Wear good, sturdy walking shoes. Especially the part over the stones requires grip. So no flip-flops😉!
  • Layers of warm-weather clothing
  • Check the weather forecast carefully beforehand. Weather in the mountains can change quickly.
  • Bring enough water and a small snack, if necessary.
  • Don't leave waste behind, take it home.
  • Don't forget your camera or smartphone - you'll want to capture the views!

To complete your day trip, we recommend having a picnic in nearby Canfaito after the hike. A beautiful, ancient beech forest where you will find delicious refreshment on hot days.

Canfaito is nearby. Drive to Monumento Canfaito - there is a large car park, a short walk from the forest.

It is quite special to find such a vast beech forest here, halfway to Italy. You would rather expect to encounter this kind of forest in the north - which makes it extra special.

On the way back, we also stopped by Elcito.

Elcito, also called the Tibet of Le Marche, is a small hamlet. Where, until recently, people lived entirely self-sufficiently. Without any outside help. Isolated. Left to their own devices.
Something we cannot imagine now.
Read the Blog on our website about Elcito.
