Holidays in Le Marche

What is the best way to travel to Le Marche in Italy?

There are several ways to travel to Le Marche. Both by car and also by plane. It depends on your personal preference.

Travelling to Le Marche by car gives you great convenience and flexibility. You always have your own transport at your disposal. It is good to know that public transport in Le Marche is not really well developed. From Utrecht, it is about 1400 km, which is considerable and should not be underestimated.

We have a few tips for you if you are travelling to Le Marche by car.

  • Plan your trip carefully. Map out your route in advance. There are several ways to get to Le Marche.

Via Switzerland: You travel via Cologne, Frankfurt, Basel, the St Gotthard Tunnel (or Gotthard Pass), Milan, Bologna, Senigallia. This is the shortest route, although it is not always the fastest. Especially during busy days with lots of holiday traffic, the St Gotthard tunnel can be crowded. For Switzerland, buy a toll vignette. Costs around €45 (is valid for a year). Tip: buy the vignette in the Netherlands. This can be done online at the ANWB, for example. Unfavourable exchange rates can make it more expensive at the border.

Via Austria: Through Germany into Austria over the Fernpass, Innsbruck, Brenner, along Lago di Garda, Bologna to Senigallia.

For Austria, you also buy a vignette. (valid for 10 days)

  • The drive to Italy is considerable. We recommend planning at least 1 overnight stay. For example, at the Italian lakes, such as Lake Lugano, Como or Lake Garda.
  • For travellers with an electric car, it is useful to know where you can charge your car, both en route and at your destination. Therefore, we recommend downloading an app to see which charging points are available on your route. Shell Recharge or Plugshare are some good examples. On the map of the website European Alternative Fuels Oberservatory, you can see exactly where you can find charging points on the road.

NB High on our B&B's priority list is the purchase of a charging station on our own property. We would like to do our bit for a sustainable world. However at the moment, our first goal is to open the B&B and with all that comes with it. However, we hope to add a charging station on our car park soon.

  • Familiarise yourself with buying toll vignettes. Both Switzerland and Austria require them.
  • Italy's Autostrada has automatic toll gates that make the flow easy and fast. It is well organised, but you have to know which toll gate you want to drive through. When you enter the Autostrada, take a ticket/biglietto at the slip road. Keep the toll badge well and close at hand so you don't have to search for it later at the exit. When you arrive at the slip road, the red and green lights above the gates clearly show which ones are open. If you want to pay by credit card, take the gate with the blue sign that says CARTE. If you prefer to pay cash, it is convenient to pay as much as possible in cash. (Make sure you have enough cash). Take the gate above which there is a white sign with coins and banknotes. There is also a gate that has a hand on it besides coins and banknotes. This is a manned gate.

If you want to get through the toll gates even faster, you can buy a TELEPASS online from the ANWB. The moment you pass the toll gate, you will be automatically registered and the amount due will be settled.

  • It seems unnecessary to say, but do it anyway, make sure all documents are in order. It is not only at the border crossing at Switzerland that checks are made. Something may also occur during your holiday for which you need valid documents.
  • A checklist for your luggage. There are many things to think about. By making a list, the preparation for your holiday will be relaxed. Think of e.g. phone chargers, medicines, good sunscreen with high protection factor, mosquito spray or cream, but also your documents and or copies thereof.
  • Arrange travel and cancellation insurance. Also check your car insurance. It sometimes pays to take a look at that and do a comparison with other insurers. Are a warning triangle and safety vests standard in the car?

By plane to Le Marche.

For a short holiday, it certainly pays to consider flying. Ryanair offers flights for pretty little. The earlier you book the cheaper is the rule. One can only take hand luggage for the same money. That does not include a trolley case. Suitcases can be booked with your ticket. You pay extra.

The journey from Dusseldorf -Weeze AirPort to Ancona Raffaello Sanzio Aeroporto takes about 1h30. But there are also many other approach options.

At the airport in the arrivals hall, you will find the counter of a few car rental companies. Have your credit card handy. Without a credit card, it is not possible to hire a car. A tip is to arrange your rental car already in the Netherlands. On the Ryanair website, you can arrange a rental car at the same time as booking your flight. Also keep in mind that our B&B is located in a hilly area. A car with a 4×4 drive is therefore no superfluous luxury.
